# Free Trial

> How the Voxworks free trial works — 14 days and 100 free minutes, tracking your usage, the 14-day phone number hold, and what happens when the trial ends.

## What is the Free Trial?

Every new Voxworks user's first team starts on a **14-day free trial with 100 free minutes** of call time. The trial begins automatically the moment your team workspace is created during the [onboarding wizard](/getting-started/onboarding) — there's nothing to activate, and nothing is charged: as the billing step puts it, "\$0 charged today. We'll only bill if you continue past your 14-day trial."

Two limits run at once, and the trial ends when you hit **either** one:

| Limit | Value | What happens when you reach it |
| ------- | ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Time | 14 days from team creation | The trial ends and your account moves to your selected plan (or Pay as you go). |
| Minutes | 100 free minutes of call time | Same — using all 100 minutes ends the trial even if days remain. |

The trial is **once per user**. It's tied to you, not to a team — if you've already had a trial on any team you own, new teams you create start directly on the plan you selected instead. Team members you invite join your existing workspace and don't consume a trial of their own.

While the trial is active, your Dashboard **Plan** badge shows **Free Trial**, and you have the platform to explore — build scripts, take inbound calls, run test calls, and schedule outbound calls, with your usage counted against the 100 free minutes. Trial accounts run one call at a time.

## Tracking your trial usage

You can see exactly where your trial stands in two places:

* **The sidebar widget** — while your trial is active, a card at the bottom of the left navigation shows a progress bar with your remaining minutes ("`{n}` of 100 free minutes"), how many days are left ("`{n}` days remaining on free trial"), and an **Upgrade now** link that opens the plan picker. When the sidebar is collapsed it condenses to a compact day count. The widget disappears once your trial ends.
* **Settings → Billing** — the **Current Subscription Plan** card shows your **Current Plan** badge (**Free Trial**) and a note confirming "You're on a 14-day free trial" with the days remaining and the date the trial ends. Once your usage data loads, a donut chart shows the minutes you have remaining against your 100-minute trial total.

Minutes are counted from your actual call time across all calls on the team — inbound, outbound, and test calls to your phone alike.

## Your phone number during the trial

During onboarding, Voxworks reserves an Australian phone number for your team from a pool of Voxworks-owned numbers. While you're on the trial the number is yours to use — inbound calls to it reach your script — but it's held on a temporary basis:

* **The 14-day hold** — as the phone number step explains, "Your new phone number will be held for 14 days. Add a card on the next step to keep it permanently." Add a payment method before the hold ends and the number stays with your team; otherwise it's released back to the pool.
* **The Temporary badge** — under **Numbers & Routing → Numbers**, a trial number carries a **Temporary** badge: "Temporary numbers expire after the trial period. A dedicated number can be assigned once an address is available."

Test calls made during onboarding, before your number is reserved, may be placed from a shared Voxworks pool number — you don't need your own number to hear your agent.

You can add a payment method at any time under **Settings → Billing** — see [Payment Methods](/billing/payment-methods). To keep a dedicated number long-term you'll also want a service address on file — see [Service Addresses](/numbers/service-addresses).

## Running out of minutes

Outbound batches are gated on your remaining balance:

* **At 0 remaining minutes** (with no active subscription), clicking **New Batch** — on the **Batch Scheduler** page or from the Dashboard **Actions** menu — opens a dialog instead: **"You've reached your free trial limit"**, showing your used-up trial (Minutes used 100/100) with an upgrade button to continue on a paid plan. Click **Maybe Later** to close it without upgrading.
* **When adding calls to a batch**, Voxworks estimates the minutes the calls will need and checks that your remaining free minutes — or your wallet balance — can cover them before the calls are queued.

Because using all 100 minutes ends the trial, running dry mid-trial simply brings forward the same transition described below. To keep calling, upgrade to a plan or add wallet funds — see [Wallet & Top-ups](/billing/wallet).

## When the trial ends

At the end of the trial — day 14 or minute 100, whichever comes first — your account transitions automatically:

* **If you selected a plan** (during onboarding or later), your account continues on that plan. Your plan's monthly included minutes are allocated and billing begins — the exact start date is shown on the billing step during onboarding and on **Settings → Billing** throughout the trial.
* **If you didn't select a plan or add a payment method**, your account falls back to **Pay as you go**: there are no included minutes, and calls are charged per minute from your wallet balance. Add funds with **Top Up Wallet** under **Settings → Billing** — see [Wallet & Top-ups](/billing/wallet).

Either way, everything you built during the trial — scripts, contacts, call history, batches — stays with your team. Your reserved phone number is kept only if you've added a payment method; otherwise it lapses with the 14-day hold.

### Upgrading mid-trial

You don't lose anything by upgrading early. Choose a plan from the sidebar's **Upgrade now** link or the **Change Plan** button under **Settings → Billing**, and the remainder of your free trial is preserved — your paid billing starts when the trial ends, not when you subscribe. Compare what each plan includes on [Plans & Pricing](/billing/plans).
