# Working on Scripts

> Ask a connected assistant to explain, review, edit, copy, roll back or write a Voxworks call script, and how its changes are checked and versioned.

<Note>The [in-app assistant](/assistant/in-app-capabilities#scripts) can also review, copy and write scripts. It proposes changes on a card for you to apply instead of saving them itself.</Note>

## Reading and explaining scripts

The assistant can list your team's scripts, read one with its flows, and explain what it does step by step. Try:

* *"Walk me through what the Bookings script says when the caller wants to reschedule."*
* *"Which of our scripts mention the cancellation fee?"*

***

## Reviewing a script

Ask *"Why isn't the script being followed?"* or *"Check the Sales script for problems"* and the assistant runs a review. It reports exact findings, not guesses:

* errors and warnings the voice engine enforces, the same ones the script editor shows
* variables that never get a value, or point at a whole record instead of one field
* routes to steps that don't exist, and steps nothing routes to
* an **otherwise** branch placed too early that ends the call
* errors that keep showing up in recent calls' system notes
* recent calls that ran an older version of the script

The checks against recent calls need **Read call details, outcomes and summaries**.

## Editing a script

Ask for the change in plain language, for example *"Make the opening line shorter and mention we're open on Saturdays."* The assistant then:

1. reads the current script,
2. makes the change and shows you what will differ,
3. checks it with the same rules the script editor uses — a change that fails is not saved,
4. saves it as a new version.

Each save is a new version, so nothing is overwritten. If you approved **Publish script changes to live calls**, the assistant can also make the change live. Otherwise it is saved as a draft for you to publish from the script editor. See [Versions & Publishing](/scripts/versions-and-publishing).

### Script settings

The assistant can also change a script's own settings: its name, voice, voicemail message and guidelines. These are saved as a draft version too. It can list the voices available so you can pick one by name. See [Script Settings](/scripts/settings) and [Voice Library](/voices/library).

### Copying a script

*"Make a copy of the Sales script called Sales – Spring promo"* creates a full copy with its own flows, so you can change the copy without touching the original.

### Rolling back

The assistant can show a script's version history and put back an earlier version of the script or one of its flows. The rollback is saved as a new version, so it can itself be undone.

## Writing a new script with AI

The assistant can create a brand-new script using the same AI generation as the app. It asks for anything it can't work out from your request:

* a **name**
* the **type** — inbound (the agent answers calls) or outbound (it makes them)
* **who the agent talks to**
* **what the call should achieve** (20 to 2,000 characters)

You can also give it your website address, a voice, and, if the call should book appointments, which connected calendar to use. The assistant checks the booking options with you before it starts.

**Starting from your own script.** Attach your existing call script as a Word document, PDF or text and the generated script follows its steps, wording and branches. The script can be up to 60,000 characters.

Generation runs in the background. The assistant follows it and tells you when the new script is ready. See [AI Generation](/scripts/ai-generation).
