# Voice Library

> Browse and audition the full catalogue of Voxworks voices, then choose the voice callers hear on each call script and AI receptionist.

## What is the Voice Library?

The **Voice library** is the catalogue of every voice your agents can speak with. Open **Voices** in the sidebar (under **Voice Agent Settings**) to browse the catalogue, filter it by accent, gender, age, and tone, and play a sample of any voice — the page is described in-app as "Browse and audition voices for your agents."

The library is for browsing and auditioning only. You assign a voice in the script editor's **Default Voice** field, in your AI receptionist's **Voice** field, and in every script or receptionist creation flow — see [Choosing a voice for your agents](#choosing-a-voice-for-your-agents) below.

Every voice in the catalogue speaks English, with Australian, American, British, and Indian-accented options plus blended accents. Voxworks curates the catalogue and adds new voices over time, so the in-app library is always the current list.

## Browsing the library

Each row in the library shows:

* **Play button** — audition the voice; see [Auditioning voices](#auditioning-voices) below
* **Voice** — the voice's name, an **HQ** badge on high-quality voices, and a one-line description of its character
* **Accent** — country flag(s) with the accent label; blended accents such as American-Australian show two flags
* **Gender** — Male or Female
* **Age** — the voice's apparent age bracket, such as Young-adult, Middle-aged, or 40s
* **Tone** — the voice's overall character as a colour-coded tag, such as Professional, Friendly, Approachable, or Upbeat

Under the page heading, a running count shows how many voices match your current filters out of the full catalogue (for example, `6 of 24`).

### Search, filters, and sorting

* **Search** — the **Search voices…** box matches free text against every field: name, description, accent, gender, age, and tone.
* **Facet filters** — four dropdowns, **Accent**, **Gender**, **Age**, and **Tone**, list every value in the catalogue with a count of matching voices beside each option. Filters are multi-select: tick as many values as you like within a facet, and the dropdown's button shows how many are ticked. Each dropdown offers a clear option (**Clear accent**, **Clear tone**, and so on) once something is ticked, and a **Clear all** button appears next to the filters while any filter is active.
* **Combining filters** — a voice is shown only when it matches your search text and at least one ticked value in every facet you have filtered on.
* **Sorting** — voices are listed newest first by default. The sort button on the right cycles through **Sort A–Z**, **Sort Z–A**, and back to the default order.

If nothing matches, the page shows *No voices match — Try a different filter or search term.* with a **Clear filters** button that resets both the search box and every facet.

### Auditioning voices

Click the play button on any row to hear a short sample of the voice speaking:

* The button shows a brief loading spinner while the sample is fetched, then a pause icon while it plays.
* Only one sample plays at a time — starting a new sample stops the one already playing.
* Click the button again to stop playback.
* If a sample cannot be played, the app shows *Voice sample not available*.

The same play buttons appear inside every voice picker across the app, so you can audition voices at the moment you are choosing one — you never need to leave the editor to double-check how a voice sounds.

## HQ voices

Voices with the **HQ** badge are Voxworks' high-quality tier — the most natural-sounding voices in the catalogue. Voices without the badge are standard quality. Both tiers are available everywhere a voice can be selected; the badge is simply a guide to where the most lifelike options are.

## Choosing a voice for your agents

Voices are assigned wherever you create or edit a script or receptionist, using the same voice picker everywhere. The picker prompts you to **Select a voice**, and each option shows its own play button, the voice's name, a gender icon, its accent flag(s), and the **HQ** badge where it applies. Playing a sample inside the picker does not select the voice or close the dropdown, and a play button beside the closed picker auditions whichever voice is currently selected.

### A script's Default Voice

Every call script has one voice, set in the script editor under **Settings → Voice & Keywords** — the section described as "Set the default voice and key terms for speech recognition":

| Setting | Description | Default |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| Default Voice | The voice the assistant speaks with on every call that runs this script. Required. | The voice chosen when the script was created |

A voice is also required up front in every script creation flow — the **Create New Script** modal and the **Generate with AI** flow both ask you to pick one before the script is created, so a script never exists without a voice.

The **Key Terms** field shares the Voice & Keywords section — see [Key Terms](/conversation-dynamics/keywords) for how it tunes speech recognition.

### Your receptionist's voice

An [AI receptionist](/receptionist/overview) has a **Voice** field in its editor's Settings tab, inside the **Your receptionist** card ("Give your assistant a name, a voice, a first greeting and further instructions."). Choosing a voice is one of the receptionist's setup steps — the Overview tab's checklist item **Choose a voice** prompts you to *pick the voice callers will hear when she answers*, and the receptionist stays in the **Needs setup** state until it is done. The Overview summary shows **Voice** as *Selected* or *Not set* at a glance.

See [Configuring Your Receptionist](/receptionist/configuration) for the rest of the receptionist's settings.

## Languages, custom voices, and tuning

Voxworks agents speak English by default. The underlying speech engines support other languages, but there is no in-app language control — agents in other languages are set up by arrangement.

The catalogue itself is curated by Voxworks: each voice carries its own tuning behind the scenes (such as speaking pace and quality tier), and new or bespoke voices can be built and trialled for your account before they appear in the library. Calls also carry a subtle office-ambience background sound, set at platform level, so your agent doesn't sound like it's speaking from a sterile void.

If you need an agent in another language, a custom voice, a different speaking pace for an existing voice, early access to experimental voice builds, or a change to the background ambience — speak to the Voxworks team for further custom configuration.
