What is the Contacts workspace?

Contacts is your team’s shared phone book. Every person your voice agents call — or who calls you — can be stored here with their phone number, email and other details, and the workspace shows at a glance whether each number is safe to dial under the Do Not Call Register (DNCR). Open it from the sidebar under Phone System > Contacts. The workspace has three main areas:
  • The Lists side panel on the left — browse all contacts or narrow the table to a single list.
  • The contacts table in the centre — sortable, filterable columns with a checkbox on each row for bulk actions.
  • The detail panel on the right — opens when you click a row or select New Contact, showing the full record and the contact’s call history. See Contact Records for everything in this panel.
Above the table sits the shared table header: view tabs (All plus any saved views), panel toggles, search, Add Filters, Add Sorting, Download CSV, Upload CSV and the New Contact button.

Table columns

The default contact-details view shows these columns. Click any column header to sort by it; click again to reverse the direction.

DNCR status icons

Next to each phone number, a small icon shows the number’s current Do Not Call Register wash status. Hover the icon for more detail — for washed numbers, the tooltip includes the date it was last washed. Wash results are treated as current for 30 days; older results revert to Not washed until the number is washed again. To refresh statuses, tick one or more rows and use the Wash DNCR Status action in the selection toolbar. How washing works, and the override’s legal acknowledgement, are covered in DNCR Washing. DNCR icons appear in the contact-details view only — they are hidden while the custom variables view is active.

Lists side panel

The left-hand panel is headed Lists and lets you slice the table by contact list:
  • All contacts at the top shows every contact, with the total count on the right.
  • Each list below shows its name and how many contacts it holds. Click a list to filter the table to its members; click All contacts to clear the selection.
  • Hover a list you created — or any list, if you’re the team owner — and click the pencil to Rename or Delete it. Renaming opens the Rename list dialog; deleting opens a Delete List confirmation (deleting a list does not delete the contacts in it).
  • The + button at the top of the panel creates a new list three ways: From Existing List, From File, or From Contacts.
Hide or show the panel with the list icon in the table header — its tooltip reads Show lists / Hide lists. The panel is shown by default. Any filters you add apply on top of the selected list, so you can, for example, open a list and then filter it to contacts whose status is Active. For list details, batch links and washing whole lists, see Lists.

Custom variables view

The box icon in the table header (tooltip Show objects / Show contact details) switches the table between two layouts:
  • Contact details view (default) — the standard columns described above.
  • Custom variables view — keeps the Name column and replaces the rest with one column per custom variable type, listed alphabetically. Each cell shows the custom variable values of that type linked to the contact, comma-separated, or a dash when none are linked.
This gives you a per-contact matrix of linked custom variables — handy for checking which contacts have, say, a linked booking or account record before launching a batch. To link records or learn how the association works, see Linking Custom Variables to Contacts.

Filters and sorting

Click the funnel icon (Add Filters) to open the filter builder. Each filter row has three parts: a column, an operator and a value. Add more rows with Add filter; every row must be satisfied for a contact to appear (filters combine with AND). Finish with Apply filters, or Clear all to remove everything. Available filter columns and their operators: For Tags, “contains” matches contacts that have the selected tag and “empty” matches contacts with no tags at all. Sorting works the same way: the arrows icon (Add Sorting) opens a builder where you stack sort rules with Add sort, or simply click a column header. Applied filters and sorts appear as removable chips in a bar beneath the header — for example, Status contains "Active" or Last Contacted descending. Click a chip’s x to remove that condition, or Clear all to reset.

Saved views

The tab row above the table starts with All and grows a tab for each view you save. A view captures three things: your filters, your sorts and your search query.
  • With the All tab active, set up your filters and click Save View. Name it in the Save View dialog and it becomes a new tab, activated immediately.
  • With a saved view active, the button reads Update View and lights up only when your current filters, sorts or search differ from what the view saved.
  • Delete the active view with the red bin icon (Delete View) in the filter bar. If you delete the view you are on, the table returns to All.
Switching back to All clears all filters, sorts and search. Saved views are per-table — the Calls, Batches and Lists tables keep their own. See Saved Views & Table Customization for the full behaviour.
Click the magnifier icon to expand the search box. Search runs against the contact’s name, email, phone number and address, matching partial text anywhere in those fields. Results update as you type, after a brief pause. Search is part of a saved view: if you save or update a view while a search term is active, reopening that view restores the term.
The workspace supports URL deep links to a specific contact. Appending ?selected=<contact-id> to the Contacts page URL opens that contact’s detail panel automatically when the page loads. Links from other parts of the app — such as a contact reference on a call — use this format, and you can copy the URL from your browser to share a specific contact with a teammate.

Selection and bulk actions

Tick the checkbox on one or more rows (or the header checkbox to select the page) and a toolbar appears with four actions: Add to List (with Create New List and Add to Existing List options), Assign Object (link a custom variable to every selected contact), Wash DNCR Status and Delete selected. Deleting removes the contacts from all lists and scheduled batches, and your own contact record is always excluded from bulk deletion. Each action is covered in detail in Bulk Actions. You can also export the table with Download CSV — the file reflects the current list selection, filters and sorts, and includes linked custom variable columns — or import contacts with Upload CSV. Both are covered in Importing & Exporting Contacts (CSV).

Next Steps

  • Contact Records — every field on a contact, inline editing, the DNCR override and per-contact call history.
  • Lists — create and manage lists, wash whole lists and feed them into batches.
  • DNCR Washing — how washing works, result lifetimes and compliance.
  • Importing & Exporting Contacts (CSV) — bring contacts in from a spreadsheet or export your filtered view.
