Overview

Your subscription plan — Pay As You Go, a monthly tier, or your free trial — is managed from the Current Subscription Plan card on Settings > Billing. From there you can open the Change Plan dialog to move to a different tier, and further down the page, cancel or reactivate a paid plan. Only team members with billing permissions can see or use any of this — account owners always have it. If you don’t, the page shows an alert instead of the billing cards: You cannot manage billing“You do not have permissions to manage billing. Please contact your account owner.” This page covers plan selection, trial deferral versus proration, and cancellation. For your saved cards and default payment method, see Payment Methods & Invoices; for the Wallet Balance and Auto Top-up, see Wallet & Top-Ups; for what a plan’s included minutes actually get you, see Plans, Tiers & Feature Gates.

The Current Subscription Plan card

The card header shows Current Subscription Plan with a Change Plan button, and below it, a Current Plan badge naming your active tier. What else the card shows depends on your plan:
  • Free trial — A green banner reads “You’re on a 14-day free trial” with the days remaining and the date the trial ends, e.g. “11 days remaining • Trial ends on Jul 27, 2026.”
  • A monthly plan (Starter, Agency, Growth, Professional) — Two side-by-side gauges: Days left in cycle (days remaining out of the total billing cycle, with the next billing date underneath) and Minutes remaining (minutes left out of your plan’s allocation, or Minutes used with an “Unlimited” gauge if your tier has no cap).
  • Pay As You Go — A short line stating you’re charged per minute of actual usage at your plan’s rate, with no cycle or credit gauges since PAYG has no included minutes.
See How Call Billing Works for how minute credits and your wallet interact when a call is billed, and Usage History for a full breakdown by billing period.

Changing your plan

Click Change Plan to open the Change subscription plan dialog. It lists four tiers — Starter, Agency, Growth, and Professional — each as a card with its monthly price, a short description, its included minutes and overage rate, a concurrent-call limit, a team limit on tiers that cap the number of teams, and the features it unlocks (API access, webhook support, call recording, live listening — in beta to selected invites only, see Live Calls & Real-Time Monitoring — advanced analytics, priority or phone support). Your current tier is marked with a Current badge and its button reads Current plan (disabled); every other card’s button reads Change to (tier name). A Pricing link in the header opens the public pricing page in a new tab. Below the tier grid, an Enterprise panel describes custom solutions for large-scale operations and offers a Contact Sales button, which opens the Voxworks contact page — Enterprise plans aren’t self-serve. See Plans, Tiers & Feature Gates for the full detail on what each tier includes. What happens when you click Change to (tier) depends on whether you’re inside your free trial.

During your free trial: deferral, not proration

If your account is still within its 14-day free trial, selecting a paid plan does not charge you immediately. Your choice is recorded as the plan that takes effect once the trial ends, and Stripe applies no proration for the switch — you’re simply not billed until the trial’s end date. You’ll see: “Plan selected. Billing will start after the free trial ends.” If you don’t already have a card on file and you pick anything other than Pay As You Go, the dialog first asks you to add one — see In-flow card capture below — before it records your selection. Selecting Pay As You Go during the trial never requires a card, since PAYG only charges for usage as it happens. You can change your selected post-trial plan as many times as you like before the trial ends; each change simply overwrites the previous selection.

Outside the trial: immediate change with proration

Once your trial has ended (or if you were never on one), changing plans takes effect immediately:
  • Your billing cycle anchor resets to now — a new cycle starts at the moment you change plans, rather than waiting for your previous renewal date.
  • Stripe issues an invoice straight away, prorated for the switch — you’re charged (or credited) for the difference between your old and new plan for the remainder of the cycle you were on.
  • Your minute credits reset to your new plan’s full allocation as of the change.
You’ll see: “Subscription updated successfully. Billing cycle has been reset.” A default payment method is required for any non-trial paid plan change — if you don’t have one on file, the change is blocked with “Default payment method is required before changing plans.” Add a default card from Payment Methods & Invoices, then try again. Selecting the plan you’re already on is blocked with “You are already on this plan”.

In-flow card capture

When you select a paid plan during your trial and don’t already have a card on file, the app doesn’t send you away to a separate page — it opens an Add Payment Method dialog in place, with a subtitle naming your chosen plan and price (e.g. “Subscribe to Growth for $349/month”). This embeds Stripe’s card element directly in the dialog: enter your card details, then click Subscribe to (plan) to confirm. Cancel backs out without changing your plan. Once the card is confirmed, the app automatically retries your plan change with the new card attached, finalising your post-trial selection. The card you add this way becomes your account’s default payment method. Outside the trial, a missing default payment method doesn’t open this dialog — it blocks the change with the error described above, so add your card from Payment Methods & Invoices first and then retry from the Change Plan dialog.

Cancelling and reactivating

Below the plan card, a Cancel subscription plan card explains what cancelling does: “Cancelling keeps your plan active until the end of the current billing period, then moves this account to Pay As You Go. Subscription plan inclusions, included minutes, and subscription-only features remain available until then.” Its Cancel plan button opens a confirmation dialog — Cancel subscription plan? — with the same terms restated, and two options: Keep plan to back out, or Yes, cancel plan to confirm. If you’re already on Pay As You Go, the button is disabled and reads Already on Pay As You Go, since there’s nothing to cancel. Cancelling doesn’t end your plan immediately — it schedules the switch to Pay As You Go for the end of your current billing period, and you keep every plan inclusion until then.

While cancellation is scheduled

Once you’ve cancelled, the card is replaced by an amber Cancellation scheduled card: “Your plan is scheduled to cancel on (date), after which the account moves to Pay As You Go. You keep all subscription inclusions until then.” A Keep my plan button reactivates the subscription — it clears the scheduled cancellation and your plan continues renewing as normal, with the confirmation “Your plan will continue and will no longer be cancelled.”

If something goes wrong

  • No billing permission — the whole billing area is replaced by the You cannot manage billing alert; ask your account owner for access.
  • Already on this plan“You are already on this plan”.
  • Enterprise selected from the dialog“Please contact sales for Enterprise plan”; use Contact Sales instead.
  • No default payment method for a non-trial change“Default payment method is required before changing plans.” Add a card from Payment Methods & Invoices and retry.
  • Card declined“Payment failed. Please check your payment method.”
  • Extra card verification needed — you’re told the payment requires additional authentication; complete it with your card issuer and retry the change.
  • Cancel or reactivate fails — a generic error toast asks you to try again or contact support; nothing changes until the request succeeds.
  • The billing page itself fails to load — you’ll see an error message with a Retry button rather than a partial or broken page.
Voxworks uses Stripe to process all subscription billing behind these actions. Invoices and PDF receipts you open from Settings > Invoices are hosted directly by Stripe — see Payment Methods & Invoices for viewing and downloading them.
